Hi.

I'm Cait Sherwood, a mixed-media painter who works into art journals.

I make art from the trash of the art I made before.

Week 24

First things first: I bought a book with a hole in it!  It is designed to be a letter "O".  They had all the letters of the alphabet made of old books. I couldn't tell if they were real old books or fake old books.  Anyway, the paper is thin and has words on it.  Only time will tell where this takes me.  I should stop buying new sketchbooks but I won't so whatever I guess.

I drew these flowers with pencils.

This week I worked on some of the collaborative journals that I am getting ready to send back.  Here are some pictures of my small journal with Kate.  We have been making this for a while now and the layers are building up a lot.

This is a magazine scrap that is painted and cut, then the cutouts were glued into the collab w/ Kate.

Glitter spray with white gouache painted on top created that mottled texture in the middle.  I drew with pencil to continue some of the fabric/floral pattern and added some doily scraps to blend into the white space.

And here are some pictures from my collab w/ Jessica:

She had printed a digital picture of a drawing/painting of hers, and then I painted over it to integrate it into this page, and added some colors.  I am really really obsessed with her use of the kind of sunset color background with painted white figures so I tried to add some more of that into the journal as well.

Jessica painted this small mandala and I painted circles around it.

Jessica included this palm diagram, and I tried to begin a second hand on the left by drawing with a pencil into wet paint.

Then I got excited about doing peyote stitch again!  I used to make all this jewelry by stitching tiny seed beads together.  It was so fun and creatively fulfilling for a while but I haven't been doing it for a few years.  Each piece takes several hours and I have chosen to use that time for painting instead.  I hope I will make some new peyote stitched pieces soon.

And here is my pug, Roxy, doing what she does best:

Okay bye.
