Hi.

I'm Cait Sherwood, a mixed-media painter who works into art journals.

I make art from the trash of the art I made before.

Week 1

Hello 2017, here we are now.  I decided to do a 30 Paintings in 30 Days to get the year started. It's a thing people do--I heard about it on a podcast.

In 2015 I started the year with a 30 day art journaling commitment and it really launched me toward where I am now.  Well, anything you do will launch you to where you are now.  I just mean it reminded me how powerful making art daily is for me, personally.

I went to the art store and got this big piece of Rives BFK cream paper and decided to make some 5"x7" paintings out of it.  Actually, I bought it to make one large piece, a painting on paper with some book pages sewn in, and then I ended up tearing it up into smaller pieces.  I seriously feel as though I can't plan anything.  Everything interesting I make is just some by-product or procrastination of something else.

Here are the first few of the small paintings on paper.  They are completely intuitive, so they are surprising me as they arrive, especially the text.

Looking through old journals, I found this note from art school in 2006 and thought it was funny.

The week between Christmas and New Years is one of my favorite times of the year.  We are lucky and we have off work that week so it feels like this lovely, quiet, in-between time.  Also, Mike and I went on our first date (internet date!) 5 years ago on December 26.  It happens to have been my first and last online date.

I now own two salt lamps and everything is better.

Here are some more of my small January paintings:

This is the big piece of paper I started with.  I have been cutting it up as I go, breaking small paintings off.
